The following events are included in the Student Registration Fee. Please note, that the attendance is limited to Lunch with the Keynote Speakers and to the Student Evening.
Lunch with Keynote Speakers
Date: 12th June
PhD students attending will have the unique opportunity to enjoy lunch with the keynote speakers of EMBEC2017, all renowned researchers in the field of biomedical engineering. Even more, you will have the opportunity to discuss and learn from a Chemistry Nobel Prize winner Stefan W. Hell. This will be a fantastic opportunity to discuss research, career development, anecdotes and much more with world leading professionals.
Attendance is limited to 40 PhD students. Please book your seat at the same time as registering for the conference.
Meet the Editors

Confused or intrigued by journal editing? Have a burning question? Or, would you like a better insight into the journey from submittal to acceptance? Come to our open panel session where you can quiz the editors of Journal of Health & Technology, Biosensors & Bioelectronics, Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing, and Frontiers. Learn from their experiences, understand what they are looking for, and discuss the issues affecting publishing within our research field.
Student Evening: Meet, Greet, Eat and Sauna!
Date: 13th June
Did you know Finland has approximately 5.5 million people, and 3 million saunas? Join us for a traditional Finnish evening by enjoying Sauna and an optional (!) swim in the lake. This event will be a unique opportunity to meet other students from around the world while experiencing traditional Finnish culture.
Busses will take you to and from the sauna ‘Villa Härmälänranta’ situated by lake Pyhäjärvi 5 km north of Tampere. Traditional grilled Finnish “makkara” and salads will be provided, so come, relax and enjoy an evening Finnish style! Attendance is limited and therefore will be on a ‘first signed-up, first served’ basis! P.S don’t forget your swimwear!

Funding Opportunities for Young Scientist
Date: 14th June
A delegate from the EU commission will present the opportunities for young researchers and how the EU can support the career development of young professionals. Emphasis will focus upon the European Research Council starting grant application.
“Foundation Man” will also come and present the opportunity for post-doctoral and PhD grant available at the national level.
Career Planning
Date: 15th June
Teemu Ihalainen, Academy Research Fellow appointed by the Academy of Finland will come and discuss with you about his experience as a post-doc and how to move forward.
Prof. JP Onnela from Harvard, will speak of his experience and the opportunities available in the United States of America.
